Bentwood furniture or objects are those that are made by wetting or softening wood then by bending it and letting it take the desired shape, design and pattern. This is a furniture making process that is used for making and producing café chairs, rocking chairs and other various kinds of light weight furniture. Even the rocking horse for children is at times made with bentwood.
The process is in widespread use for making casual and informal furniture of all types, particularly seating and table. The bentwood process works best on thinner pieces of wood that are porous enough to allow the moisture from the steam to temporarily soften the wood. The wood is placed in some sort of enclosure, which is fed with steam created from a heat source.
Bentwood furniture is light, comfortable, and inexpensive, as well as strong and graceful, therefore it is widely used in hotels, restaurants, shops and clubs.
