Canopy beds are beds that are ornamented with a canopy. These beds are connected on top with rails or beams from which the canopy can hang. Often a hoop is fixed on the ceiling, right above the bed, from which the drapes can hang. A typical canopy bed usually features posts at each of the four corners extending about four feet high or more above the mattress. The decorative fabric is often draped across the upper space between the posts to create a ceiling, or canopy directly over the bed.
Canopy beds can be crafted in both traditional and contemporary designs:
Traditional Canopy Beds: This type of bed will feature intricately carved wood frame or metal frames in dark colors. The drape will be ruffled or pleated with delicate fabrics like silk, net, satin etc.
Contemporary Canopy Beds: Contemporary canopy beds feature a simpler and straight design. The foot and the headboard feature sharp, straight cut geometric and minimalistic designs. Wood, metal, or a combination of the two is used in the construction of modern canopy beds.
